Workshop Wednesday: Welcome to the Writing Tardis

Welcome to the first Workshop Wednesday!

I’m officially 50,000 words in on the WIP, and have a good chunk of it left to write. There is so much more to explore with these characters before they’re left at the altar of Book 2 (so to speak). Gonna need every bit of probably 50,000 more words.

But today I’m not going to talk about the book. I’m going to talk about my writing space.

You may remember from last week’s post that I bought a house in the latter half of 2018. Well, as it turns out, the people we bought it from were absolutely glorious nerds (hey Sonya and Paul!!). So much so that Sonya painted this amazing mural in what is now our office:

Yes, that is the TARDIS. Yes, it is on my wall. And, you guessed it, now I have to model my office around this work of art.

What better way to do that than to completely trick out this new space with everything Nerd. My best friend bought me a TARDIS throw blanket for Christmas — so that is now part of the ensemble (it’s around my shoulders in the photo above). We (finally) mounted the replica Hylian Shield and Master Sword that Husband bought ten years ago; and I am planning to get a stencil so I can paint some fun quotes on the wall. The current frontrunner:

You’re going to be amazing.

The Adventure Zone

The atmosphere in the room is fun and distinctly techie. There are three desktop gaming PCs, four monitors, a giant fish tank, several small tanks, and a turtle tub.

I usually have a candle burning. My current selection:

Aromatherapy candle called "Focus"

All in all, the space is inviting and cozy. I wanted to create a sanctuary where I feel comfortable and creative. And so far, it’s working!

(And of course, now the room is Bigger On The Inside.)

What does your writing space look like? Do you share it with as many animals as I do?

I'm a writer living and working in Cincinnati, OH. I've been writing for ages and ages. Somehow now I'm actually getting someone to pay me to do it.
