AKA Liz Begins to Hold Herself Accountable.
Here are the novels I’m currently working on:
- Bloodmade (submitting to agents stage)
- The Unmaking Machine (first draft)
But now, even though I technically have enough to work on, my tired brain decided that now is a good time to dredge up the past. And by the past I mean my novel from ten years ago.
I’ve been toying with the idea to revisit this project. It was my pride and joy for at least five or six years and got me through the tougher times in middle and high school. Bored in class? Work on the novel. Being made fun of? Work on the novel. A little sad or teen-angsty? Work on the novel. The result was 120k words of love, loss, joy, and fantasy role playing – and I was proud of every single one of them. I created an extensive fantasy universe, dozens of characters, and plotted out nearly five books in this young adult series. I was DOING IT.
I recently started re-reading the book., and let me tell you. It’s bad. Like, yikes. But the kernel of story inside it is good – I am just going to have to do some digging. As Husband said: “You just have really descriptive notes now.” I’ll probably try to document the process, as it’s sure to be a doozy.
He’s right! I’ve also been thinking about using this world for an upcoming D&D campaign (my first time DMing, yikes). Should be fun.
The question of “How’s your novel coming?” has always been a complicated one, and I’m certainly not the first writer to have this issue. But it’s actually kind of exciting to be able to say “Which one?”
