February check-in!

Hey everyone! How is your February going? I hope it’s moseying along nicely. I’m having an okay birthday month so far. I have been treating myself with baths and I was actually able to sit outside and read this weekend, beer in hand (hello, 60-degree weather in the dead of winter).

Things continue to look up for the Liz and Husband duo. We’re finally going to have weekends off together for the first time in two years, which will be hella nice. I have a birthday date this Sunday with my BFF to watch Sailor Moon and drink wine, which, uh, will be awesome. I spent yesterday at a winery with some of my best friends (pictured below). (Hmm, a lot of these seem to be connected to wine.)

I’m making progress on the whole “being happy” thing. Sometimes it feels like I take two steps forward and one step back, but the effort is there, and I can tell a difference.

The winery I visited with friends over the weekend. Aren’t those clouds dreamy?

How about those side projects?

I’ve got a lot of things going right now. These are the things I’m excited about the most – the most fulfilling parts of my life at the moment.

  1. Website design: I finally finished working on the website for Post Mortem Press. Check it out – I designed that! (While you’re there, check out the books. I’m sure there’s a story for everyone, lots of diverse interests represented here.)
  2. Ye olde novel: The Unmaking Machine continues to percolate in my brain. I decided to scrap what I had for NaNoWriMo (all 25k words of it… ugh) and start over with the same characters and plot but a bit more attention on the writing. I’ve started a file for it in my writing software, but for now I’m just cranking it out by hand. It’s pretty cathartic.
  3. JavaScript: I requested a book from the library and I’m finally going to double down and figure out how this language works. I need it for working on the PMP site and probably just for life in general. Yay languages.
  4. Eating less garbage/being more active: My time in Chicago was filled with pizza and beer and . . . a lot of chocolate. I also didn’t exercise a lot, mostly because I didn’t super relish getting catcalled while running. So now that I’m back in the land of private-ish parks, I’m slowly getting back into being healthy, for myself, so that I can feel better. This is greatly helped by Husband, who likes making delicious veggie soups in the crock pot.

There are a ton more (like the NKU alumni magazine that’s accepting submissions until March 1 . . . .) but let’s leave that for another day. I’m already exhausted thinking about these things. Feel free to drop me a comment and let me know how your February is shaping up!

I'm a writer living and working in Cincinnati, OH. I've been writing for ages and ages. Somehow now I'm actually getting someone to pay me to do it.
