I went on a mini-rant on Twitter on Friday about how I feel about music. I know I’ve waxed poetic about this before. (Try here, here, or even here. Or here. I sure do write about that a lot.) But I realized Friday morning that the songs on my writing playlist don’t necessarily make for “relaxing” background music.
Instead, there’s a specific word I would use to describe nearly every song on my playlist.
I’ve been thinking lately about music. I can finally put a word to the main characteristic of the songs on my writing playlist: Wild.

For instance, lately I’ve been listening to a song called “Ashita o narase” from the anime Fairy Tale. It’s energetic, it’s exciting, it’s adventure and angst and anger all rolled into one — and I love it. It’s been on my work and writing playlist for a couple months now.
Apparently, I can’t write without feeling like I want to punch walls (in a good way?).

This feeling is interesting. I’m not going to question it. If it works, it works. Listening to these kinds of songs also gives me energy in the morning during my commute — sometimes, I just have to get hype enough.
There ya have it, I suppose.
