Music of the Day

Just realized something. I’ve already said Fall Out Boy seems to come out with a new album every time I do something important in my life.

From Under the Cork Tree – Started high school / started listening to Fall Out Boy (that’s an event in itself)
Infinity On High – ….Prom? (this is the only one that doesn’t really make sense in this weird narrative I’ve created for myself)
Folie a Deux – Met my current husband
Save Rock and Roll – Started grad school
American Beauty / American Psycho – Moved to Chicago

So, there’s that. It makes sense that my favorite band has been there to help me kick off the most important moments in my life. (My BFF is convinced that the next time they come out with another album, I’ll be having kids. Pretty please, Patrick & co., hold off for another few years at least.)

But my other favorite band, Panic! at the Disco, factors in somewhere else in my life. (We can talk about my music tastes later; I don’t really care whether or not you agree/disagree with me. I like what I like. *shrug*)

When I wrote my very first novel in high school, I discovered Panic’s first album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. I listened to it on repeat while I wrote the second half of that book, especially the song “Time to Dance” (click for bonus FMV of FFIX+Time to Dance demo). It remains my favorite song to this day.

When I started writing my (third? sort of) novel, Vices and Virtues was out.

And now, as I’m beginning my new project, they decide to release a single on the same day I sign up for NaNoWriMo.

So maybe FOB is the background music for the big events in my life . . . But Panic is behind the writing. What I’ll listen to as I’m slogging through these projects, forever. It makes sense. Their songs are always so epic and sweeping, they remind me of what I’m trying to accomplish in these scenes.

Keep it coming, Panic! I’ll be humming this song today as I work and tonight as I’m writing. :)

I'm a writer living and working in Cincinnati, OH. I've been writing for ages and ages. Somehow now I'm actually getting someone to pay me to do it.
