NaNoWriMo is coming . . .

. . . and I still need a plan.

I suppose it’s about time for me to set something in stone and (hopefully) keep to it when the time comes. Here are my thoughts.

1. I need to decide what to do about marketing my novel. I have been tossing around the idea of changing the age of my main character (she’s 27ish now) and marketing it as young adult. However, I’m not sure I want to do that. I have a feeling I might just be doing that to increase my chances of being published — and that seems cheap. I can’t change the makeup, the soul, of the novel on a whim. I have to be true to its nature and to the story I’m trying to tell. So anyway, I still have to decide.

2. My friend Beth and I are exchanging novels and notes, so hopefully she will help me see something I haven’t previously seen.

3. Another pass-through of edits.

4. I think I want to reevaluate my characters again and make sure the things they’re doing make sense, and in turn reevaluate the plot. My thesis committee said that the plot made sense and it came together nicely at the end, but I’m still not 100% happy with it.

So, all that being said, I think my plan of action will start with a read-through. I’m going to put it on my Kindle and see how it reads as a novel. Ha. That will be fun and squee-worthy.

What about you, dear readers? What are your plans for November?

I'm a writer living and working in Cincinnati, OH. I've been writing for ages and ages. Somehow now I'm actually getting someone to pay me to do it.
