Dear Long-Suffering People that Still Follow this Site for Some Reason,
I’ve been sleeping under a rock for the last month or so. My thesis defense went well (yay!) and I passed (more yay!) and then I hid under a boulder and have been doing nothing except eating excessive amounts of carbohydrates, drinking excessive amounts of beer, and playing excessive amounts of Final Fantasy XIV. Whatever, I am a Master of Something now, so I can do what I want, right? . . . Right? . . .
Well anyway, it’s the first of October, so I figured it’s time to buckle down and start actually, you know, doing something. Which includes updating this ancient blog that I haven’t touched in like three months. I won’t apologize, because I’m always apologizing and you know I’m just gonna slack off again soon (hopefully not, though). I think I need a new skin for the blog, and will be experimenting with looks and pictures and such. Drop me a line and let me know what you think.
I’ll also be adding a new page in the menu about NEAT, which is still alive and kicking. We just released our fifth issue and are looking for submissions for our sixth. It’s all so surreal to think we started this a year ago and now have a following and regulars and are actually established in the literary universe. Believe me when I say that if I could do this for money, I would, hands-down-no-joke. It’s fun, it’s satisfying, and I get to read a ton of cool stuff. I want a career like that.
Speaking of careers, I am currently looking for employment in the Chicago area. I’ve lived in the Ohio/Kentucky area for most of my life, and I think it’s time for a change. There are so many opportunities in publishing and editing in Chicago, I know I’ll find something if I’m persistent and annoying enough. Can’t wait to live in an actual city and go to bookstores and coffee shops and bookstore/coffee shops and attend literary events. It’s going to be magical. So if anyone has any leads on a job . . . let me know. *winkwinknudgenudge*
Oh yeah and while I’m on a roll as far as life goals go, I may as well list them all out.
1. Get a job. Like, soon.
2. Get an apartment. Move out of in-laws’ house. Like, sooner than soon.
3. Stop eating so many damn carbohydrates. (But beer is okay. Because, beer.)
4. Revamp website to include cooler pictures, NEAT page.
5. Start looking for agents for novel.
6. Learn how to write a query letter.
7. Try not to cry while learning to write a query letter.
8. Submit novel to agents.
So that’s all. You know, just little things. Get a job, change my life. Yeah, small stuff.
As always, thanks for reading. More updates to come. Maybe I’ll take you on a play-by-play of my thesis defense (honestly, I think they just felt sorry for me and passed me because they didn’t want to listen to me talk about nothing anymore). (No really though I passed and it was amazing and then I got Really Drunk.)
Stay Golden, Readers. :)
